How to Navigate this Course

Step 1: Introduction

An intro to the course objective and the basics of what to expect during the exam, including the format, the question types, and advice from past test takers.




Step 2: Choose Your Section

Step 3: Gather & Read your Resources

Click on the specific topic that you are working on with the header links above. In each topic you will have access to the required reading and resources.
  1. Engineering Pro Guides Textbook (Power PE Technical Study Guide): The majority of the reading will be from the. A hard copy will be mailed to you. An electronic copy may be accessed on the Resources Tab.
  2. NCEES® PE Electrical and Computer: Power Reference Handbook: Download the latest pdf version from your MyNCEES® Account. This handbook and the codebooks will be your only resources during the CBT exam.
  3. Codes & Standards: The following codes are fair game on the exam: NEC® (2017), NESC® (2017), NFPA® 70E (2018), NFPA® 497 (2017), NFPA® 499 (2017), NFPA® 30B (2015). During the exam, you will be given an electronic version of these codes. While you are studying, you will need your own copy. It is recommended that you get the electronic versions of the NEC, since it will be the most heavily tested code on the exam. The cheapest version of the NESC is sufficient. For each topic, complete steps 4 thru 7

Step 4: Watch Lecture Videos  

The lecture videos will provide another viewpoint to your reading. You will also be able to watch the completion of some of the most common exam problems within the topic.



STEP 5: Complete Textbook Problems

  • Practice problems are located at the end of each section of the textbook (Technical Study Guide).

  • These problems are designed to be easier than actual exam type problems. Some problems may be equal to the easy-level difficulty problems on the actual exam.

  • Solutions are included in the book after the problems.

STEP 6: Complete Practice Exams

  • After completing steps 2 thru 5, take the Practice Exams at the end of the section. Take your time, use any resource, EXCEPT the solutions.

  • Practice exams are given in the format of google quiz. There is no hard copy.

  • These problems are designed to be equal to the same level of difficulty as the actual PE exam.

  • Solutions are provided after you complete the exam.

  • *It is important that you do your best to solve these problems without looking at the solutions. Even if you must struggle through them and must do your own research, this will help you in the long run.*

STEP 7: REVIEW THE TOPIC

  • Review your mistakes from the practice exam.

  • Ask questions on Piazza.

  • Or email Justin any questions.

Step 8: Complete Final Exam  

After completing steps 4 through 7 for each section, take the Final Exam. The final exam has scores from past test takers that will allow you to gauge your level of preparedness.

Step 9: Read Reviews

Read past reviews and recommendations from past test takers. The survey gives insight to who passed and why. It also includes recommendations and what they wished they studied more.
